Updates, May 17th, 2021
Updates:
Ad Astra per Astral is yet again delayed as my physical body is still struggling. I’ve got a partial diagnosis (POTS) and am forming a recovery plan. Thank you to those of you waiting patiently to join me in other worlds… we’ll get there soon.
Yesterday I visited my studio for the first time in over 3 months!?! I dropped in to gather final supplies for another run of This Great Plague! The waiting list has been growing every month and doing another run of this healing and purging experience is just what I needed to get back onto the art horse.
I’ll be sending out emails to those of you on the list this week.
I’m also adding a pay-it-forward program where generous patrons can purchase additional kits for others.

About This Great Plague:
London, 1665. Plague spreading person to person, house to house. 100,000 dead in 18 months. Sound familiar? This Great Plague debuted in 2019 as an in-person Halloween spectacle of incense, fire, and plague-doctored witchcraft against a backdrop of thumpin’ beats. In the time that has passed our world has changed. We must circle back, to an earlier time, to another disease. Fashions may change, but the biology is the same.
Experience a purging and healing ritual based on those used by the plague doctors during the Great Plague of London in 1665. 9 curated items. Over 13 essential oils and herbal concoctions. Purge your demons.
This Great Plague is a multisensory packaged experience replete with renaissance-era sensory experiences that not only reimagines historical storytelling but combines ancient and modern healing practices (acupressure, ASMR, reiki, essential oils) to bring comfort, transformation, and connection to a world of individuals coping with a global crisis. It recently won the 2020 No Proscenium award for Outstanding Achievement in Special Delivery Experiences and was shortlisted for a 2021 IxDA Interaction Award.
What people are saying:
“Like TSD, This Great Plague is transportive, but the destination is entirely different. The materials are at once delicate and overwhelmingly evocative, and the vial of cadaverine/sulfur stood out as a highlight – it’s been a long time since I smelled something that scared me.” — Evan Neiden, Candle House Collective
“Tracy is a scent artist experimenting with new forms of immersion. Her kits are a steal for $20 bucks.” — Jeff Stark, Nonsense NYC

I made a short audio and image blog of our carriage ride in Central Park. It’s hypnotic and heartwarming. Check it out here as my first Storytime installment: https://www.thisyearning.com/storytimewithtracy/a-fountain-for-horses

Expect the next experience kit to launch in early January.

"Close Your Eye is an immersive experience that layers the carbon cycle, slumber parties, and the Sandman from Tracy M Smith (This Yearning, 2021 IxDA Interaction Award Shortlist). Choose from several levels of participation in this multisensory (taste! smell! touch! sound! sight!) show."
Fill Your Cup, 2021
I'm hosting an immersive ritual at the end of this month, the evening of the full moon, as part of COVEN/CONVENE III: FILL YOUR CUP
For it I developed a pair of decadent recipes:
bee-balm: an apricot, rosehip, and lily of the valley body balm and amichor: an elixir of life and love made from coffee, cocoa, hops, cinnamon, and a secret earthy and colorful ingredient...
Independent immersive experience designer, This Yearning, is shortlisted for the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)’s 2021 Award in the “Engaging” category for their multisensory DIY ritual kit, This Great Plague.
